Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. –Rachel Carson

We have long been planning to make it up to Cape Ann (the “other” Cape, as opposed to Cape Cod) we only succeeded in getting there a few weeks ago, for my (gulp) 25th birthday.

And yet we’ve already made a return trip, less than a month later, this time bringing Graham’s parents, who were visiting us this past week.

That should be an indicator of how we feel about Cape Ann. We fell for it, and hard.

I was gifted with a sunny and unseasonably warm birthday.

We made short work of some lobster rolls; then toured the village.

And then we trekked out to Halibut Point State Park to see the lighthouse and the old abandoned quarry.

Unfortunately the photo above does not even remotely do justice to the enormity of those stones and that rock pile.

Our second trip took place on an entirely different kind of day: blustery, with rain threatening to ruin our day at the beach. But the distinct weather conditions made for some really great photo ops. The same vistas look a lot different with a stormy sky behind them.
